Welcome back to Pinecraft Florida and the Orange Blossom Inn. This is book three in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. This was such a wonderfully, delightful book. I so loved catching up with the characters that we know and love from this series and getting to meet the new ones also. Shelley has a way of creating characters that are so real and lifelike that you actually feel as though you are part of the story. I didn’t want to put this book down it was that good. So be sure to grab your glass of sweet ice tea and kick back and relax while you escape to Pinecraft in this delightful story.

Anna’s Healing, By: Vannetta Chapman
Anna’s Healing is book one in Vannetta Chapman’s new series Plain and Simple Miracles.
This book is a home run in my book! I was captured right from the start with the wonderful characters and story line. There is so much heartache, pain, love, faith, and devotion. Character that seem to come to life right before your eyes. I could envision the setting of this story. It was as though I was walking along right beside these characters experiencing everything that they did. A story about faith, and Miracles. Riveting until the very end.

Lilacs for Julianna Blog Hop & A Giveaway!
Secondary Characters – Lupus
When I wrote Lilacs for Juliana, I knew I wanted the heroine’s sister to have some type of chronic illness, and her mother, too. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and several other inflammatory conditions and we have other family members with authoimmune disorders, including Lupus. I wondered when physician first began understanding the disease. As I researched, I was pleased to discover that during the time frame of my story (late 1800’s) there were physicians, particularly in England, who were looking for treatments for Lupus. So my sister’s heroine was given Lupus and I had her mother suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Any condition is experienced as an individual responds to it. There is no one size fits all, despite our tendency to think that a certain diagnosis means certain symptoms. So I had to decide which characteristics of Lupus would present with Juliana’s sister, Claudette, and under what circumstances. And I introduced a physician into the storyline who had trained in England under the researched interested in Lupus. So he’s a bit “intrusive” as he’s fascinated by Claudette’s manistestation of the disease and wants to help her.
There is no cure for Lupus, even today. There are ways to manage the disease, but even then there are no guarantees. Symptoms can range from mild to life-threatening.
I wanted Claudette to be someone coping with the disease, but wanting more for herself. She couldn’t be allowed to move to the forefront of the story, but I wanted her management of her symptoms to result in some changes for her life that also affected my heroine’s story line.
Also, being the youngest in the family, Claudette hasn’t coped well with her disease—having been babied by others, including my heroine, who believes it is her responsibility to caretake this younger sister, who is also an adult, like herself. When the doctor challenges Claudette to begin some treatments, she pushes back, surprising Juliana. But when she does make some changes in her life, doors begin to open for Claudette.
Question:
Do you have a family member with an autoimmune disorder? Have you read any books where you felt this disorder was particularly well shown in the novel?
Bio: Former “Yooper” Carrie Fancett Pagels writes Christian historical romances about overcoming. She grew up in Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where many of her stories are set. Possessed with an overactive imagination, that wasn’t “cured” by twenty-five years as a psychologist, she loves bringing characters to life. Carrie and her family reside in Virginia’s Historic Triangle, which is perfect for her fascination with history. Carrie enjoys reading, traveling, baking, and beading—but not all at the same time!

Whirlwind of surprises! The Mistress of Tall Acre, By: Laura Frantz
Laura Frantz has done a spectacular job writing this wonderful novel The Mistress of Tall Acre. It is a work of historical fiction at its finest. I was drawn into the story from the very very beginning. There is never a dull moment with so many twists, turns and unexpected things happening throughout the whole story! Such wonderful characters that you will come to love or hate. I felt as though I was there with the characters living out the story with them. I am a new and devoted fan of Laura Frantz. I look forward to reading many more books by her.

Celebrate the Whit Award with Adventures in Odyssey
Most people can think of one or two figures whose love and life example had a great impact on the formation of their spiritual foundation. It might be a coach, a Sunday school teacher or a parent or grandparent. Whatever the role, it’s hard to put a value on the investment these people make on a daily basis. In an effort to bring honor to these countless, quiet heroes, Adventures in Odyssey announces the John Avery Whitaker Award. Named after Odyssey’s resident leader and the namesake of Odyssey’s most famous attraction, Whit’s End, the award will be bestowed annually on one deserving mentor.
Like the Adventures in Odyssey character John Avery Whitaker, or “Whit” as he’s known by fans of the show, the person should be someone who is passionate about innovatively teaching children the truths expressed in the Bible. Those who create Adventures in Odyssey know that while Whit might be a fictitious character, there are thousands of real people just like him. “Our hope is that by bringing those people into the light, others will be inspired to follow their example,” says Dave Arnold, the executive producer of Adventures in Odyssey. “If we can spur mature believers in Christ to mentor and influence a generation being barraged with messages of compromise, we can turn the tide and encourage revival in our youth.”
Nominations are being accepted now through October 31 for the “Whits” out there in the world. Beginning on November 1, one nominee will be selected daily and awarded with a prize package including Adventures in Odyssey’s latest album, Taking the Plunge, and a DVD of the movie Beyond the Mask. One grand prize winner will be chosen and announced on November 20. This worthy recipient will receive more than $500 worth of Focus on the Family resources, including an Odyssey Adventure Club (OAC) membership. The OAC offers 24/7, on-the-go access to more than 800 episodes of Adventures in Odyssey, as well as a new, members-only episode every month. It is a safe, fun environment where the whole family can explore, create and imagine, all while learning biblical truth.
Nominations can be submitted via this form, or the information can be emailed to contest@whitsend.org. (See the Official Rules for all the details.)
To learn more about the John Avery Whitaker Award, visit www.whitsend.org. Discover the Odyssey Adventure Club at www.oaclub.org or on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
