Do you remember picking out your bride’s dress? The cake? Food? Location? The invitations? Weddings are fun, no matter how simple or extravagant. The marked event fills your heart with joy sharing in the special day with the bride and groom. I remember the day I married Ed, my best friend and soulmate. We planned the details together, and we still talk about what a heartwarming memory it is for us. I’m sure if you and I met for a girl’s chat, we’d enjoy hearing each other’s account of when we exchanged vows with our sweethearts.
Amish brides may not have the flowers, rings, and fancy food and cake, but they have their traditions and share in the excitement like we do. I enjoyed writing “Joshua’s Bride”. I hope you enjoy it to.

I had a simple wedding. My grandmother helped me pick out my dress, because she was paying for it, and my sister-in-law handled the cake and food. Very simple.

I meet my husband three weeks before we were married. My husband and I had a small backyard wedding at his sister’s house. We had maybe 25 to 30 guests. I was given my wedding dress by a friend who had called off her wedding. A friend of the family made a tier wedding cake. I think we did an excellent job. We planned this wedding in a very short time period and married the night before I graduated high school. We had our first child a year later. Thirty years later we are still going strong.

Such a fun time, planning a wedding! We didn’t have a large budget so we prioritized where the money would be spent. I loved my dress and all the flowers the most!

Our wedding was such a special day, although it was so cold! We got married in a beautiful barn on a frosty October day.

Sounds like a wonderful memory. We have two beautiful event barns for weddings near where I live, and they make great locations for weddings and events. You are the first one I’ve heard to have a “barn” wedding. They are so popular now and very fun!!!!

I love all 3 of these authors and I can’t wait to read this book. My neighbor has a beautiful barn that he has fixed up and they rent out for weddings. Just last weekend they had a beautiful wedding and they are getting ready for another one tomorrow. He said he is booked for the entire summer. dsimmering68@gmail.com

All weddings are unique. I can imagine an Amish one would be more about traditions and family than about the material things.

You are right, Tracy. They don’t get caught up in the material things, and they have a longer service with the bishop including a message in the ceremony. They also have large numbers attend but all pitching in to bring food and helping to set up.
